Book Launch Success! Charlotte Mitchell: A Memoir

A stack of books - Charlotte Mitchell: a Memoir - arranged on a table.

My name is Charlotte Mitchell, and I have been involved with the user movement and Collective Advocacy at CAPS for a long time.

I started thinking about writing my memoir at Moniack Mhor, the writing retreat I went on near Inverness. That was in October 2023.

Over Christmas I wrote and wrote. I had asked Pam, the Arts as Advocacy Manager whether I could get an arts grant from CAPS and Thrive.

First, some of the money went to the editor, this took a long time. Next the graphic designer started her work. She wanted to show aspects of my life in a semi abstract way. Her work was a success. The printer was very professional, getting the book ready for the launch in February.

The launch, on the afternoon of the 12th of February 2025, was attended by about 30 people who seemed to enjoy themselves. I did readings of three short passages. It was nice to share my life with others.

I hope that we can share my memoir more widely to help people both with a diagnosis of mental illness and anybody who finds just living hard.
