Place: University of Edinburgh Main Library 30 George Square Edinburgh EH8 9LJ

Join us to explore mental health-related collections held by Lothian Health Service Archive (LHSA) with CAPS Independent Advocacy. Members of CAPS will be bringing their lived expertise to draw out the important messaging and stories that can be found within the collections.

At the event, collective advocacy participants will be showcasing the materials, and attendees are invited to engage with them to think about the new perspectives that lived expertise can add to research, policy, and advocacy.

The event will be catered with soft drinks and nibbles. Everyone is welcome but booking is essential.

The discovery session will take place in the Lothian Health Service Archive in partnership with Outwith. Lothian Health Services Archive is NHS Lothian’s archive based in Heritage Collections, University of Edinburgh. We hold a vast collection of material about the rich history of health and healthcare in our region: we are the largest health archive in the UK. Our holdings about the history of mental healthcare are one of our strengths, reflecting both psychiatric institutions and ‘mad movement’ activism. Learn more about the LHSA’s collections and how to arrange a visit via: https://www.lhsa.lib.ed.ac.uk/ The Outwith team works to support lived expertise as a core part of research. Based at the Library, and working with partners across the University, they support all types of participatory research.
