What is Independent Advocacy

TALK. Portraits. by Graham Williams

Three times as many men as women die by suicide in the UK. This statistic was partly the impetuous behind photographer Graham Williams’ impactful project TALK. Portraits. It aims to encourage men to talk openly and honestly about their mental health. It does this by displaying portraits of individuals who have done exactly that. Portraits are taken after a conversation between sitter and photographer, during which they discuss their own journeys and experiences with mental health. The text displayed alongside each portrait comes directly from this conversation.

Between the dates of Thursday 10 to Thursday 24 October, you’ll be able to see a selection of portraits from the project displayed around Edinburgh’s city centre. Audiences are invited to go on an interactive trail around Edinburgh to discover portraits and the stories of their sitters throughout the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival.

The photographs below show some of the portraits as they appear on billboards.
