What is Independent Advocacy

Annual report published

Our Annual Report is now published! 2021 has mostly happened on Zoom, as the grip of Covid-19 continues to restrict our movements, but not our enthusiasm!

This is a memorable year for CAPS as we celebrate our 30th Birthday. Much has happened over the years since 1991 and there is lots to celebrate as our work continues to expand.

Two new Collective Advocacy projects had their first meetings this year. There’s a group for people from ethnic minority backgrounds and another one for people who identify as LGBTQI+ both supported by funding from Thrive.

Elsewhere in Collective Advocacy, we published a report on the views of people who use the services of Future Pathways, the Scottish Government’s initiative to support adult survivors of abuse and neglect in care before they were 18.

In Individual Advocacy, our work with children and young people who are experiencing the Children’s Hearings system expands; we received 67 referrals up to September this year.

We also expanded our work with people who need support to have their voice heard because of drug or alcohol use. Additional funding from the Corra Foundation means that we now have two dedicated part time Drug and Alcohol Advocacy workers.

Read the full report for more on these and many more successes during the year, there are also lots of quotes from people who have used CAPS Independent Advocacy.
