What is Independent Advocacy

Out of Sight Out of Mind 2022

OOSOOM is an annual multi-media art exhibition which shows artworks made by people who have lived experience of mental health issues. It takes place each October at Summerhall in Edinburgh and this year will be the exhibition’s tenth.

The exhibition is organised by a Planning Group of people who have lived experience of mental health issues. It is facilitated by CAPS Independent Advocacy and funded by Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. It is part of the year-round Thrive Edinburgh Arts Programme and the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. See last years exhibition and find out more: www.outofsightoutofmind.scot

An organiser recently said:

‘It comes from the idea of people being ‘out of sight out of mind’ and people persisting to be seen and heard. There is still a strong element of defiance in it, it can take a lot to take action when self assurance is lacking. The exhibition has found a more comfortable place within itself: it stands proud and holds up high whatever is expressed, be it anger or joy, or whatever else.’
